On the afternoon of Sunday 24 February, Arc<\/strong> visits the Netherlands to explore the dark universe as guests of Sonic Acts<\/a>, a long-running Dutch festival exploring the interzone between art, music and science.<\/p>\n

The invitation a very happy coincidence for us as Arc<\/strong>‘s first edition of 2013, out soon, focuses on the fact that most of our universe is missing.<\/p>\n

Come see us if you can: Alastair Reynolds<\/a> will be riffing mischievously off Fermi\u2019s paradox, science writer Frank Swain<\/a> will map where the wild things are, I\u2019ll explain why a theory of vision that ignored light completely served us well for over 800 years, and Tim Maughan<\/a> will offer us a first glimpse of his experimental AR entertainment Watching Paint Die<\/em>.<\/p>\n

(I\u2019m especially looking forward to that as I\u2019ve just received Tim\u2019s latest story for Arc<\/strong> – a cracking sequel to Paintwork<\/a><\/em> called Ghost Hardware<\/em>.)<\/p>\n

Sonic Acts 2013 runs from Thursday 21 to Sunday 24 February. (Here\u2019s the programme<\/a>.) Arc<\/strong>\u2019s bit of it runs from 1.30 to 3.30 on Sunday afternoon, in a former gaol called De Balie<\/a>. They say it\u2019s a chic theatre cafe-restaurant now, but I\u2019m beginning to wonder if there isn\u2019t a pattern developing here.<\/p>\n

Last time I did something with Sonic Acts<\/a> they put me up in a student house next door to Joseph Fritzl<\/a>.<\/p>\n
